Book #1: The Kingmaker
Maxim and Lennix are back at it – and by, “back at it” I mean, they sexing! It should come as no surprise how I feel about the sex scenes in this book; I feel the same way I did reading The Kingmaker. There are way too many sex scenes. Max and Nix are like high school kids, they can’t keep their hands off each other long enough for their libido to subside.
The story picks up right where The Kingmaker drops off. Lennix and Wallace have been kidnapped in Costa Rica and we (the reader) are holding our breath waiting for Maxim to move heaven and earth to get to her. Oh and does he!
The love story between Maxim and Lennix is very passionate and borderline, desirable but, something about Max really perks up my red-flag meter. He is controlling, possessive, and overly protective (it’s scary), he has infinite resources, and he has anger that knows no end. I cannot get over how controlling he is, I just don’t like it. It’s never going to sit well with me.
Lennix is the same determined, headstrong, laser-focused businesswoman with her own dreams at the forefront of her life – and she is not wavering for anyone! When Lennix loses me in this story is her lackadaisical approach to the Cade campaign. She knew the blowback that would come from her relationship with Maxim. She knew what this meant, not only to her but Kimba. She knew it wasn’t appropriate. If Kerry Washington can hide her children from the world. If Beyonce could have a whole wedding in a SOHO loft, and not one picture leak. If Kylie Jenner could hide her whole first pregnancy. Lennix and Max could have kept their relationship discreet – they have the same resources as the aforementioned celebrities. They both of them equally annoyed me around their very, very, VERY active sex life.
I knew Glenn was going to be a problem. When he placed his hand on the small of Lennix’s back… I knew then that either, Maxim was going to slide him between the file cabinet and printer or, he was going to get himself fired for being inappropriate with Lennix.
Final Thoughts: Lots of twists and turns. You definitely have to read book #1 before reading this one, there are. a few characters that overlap and tie into the overall plot. It was a great read, Kennedy Ryan has not let me down yet. I read this in 1 sitting, took me about 9 hours of reading but, that’s how good it is, I couldn’t put it down. I dropped my rating by 0.5 stars mainly because they were both too old to be acting like horny teenagers and risking everything Lennix and Kimba built.
