This review is going to be easy because it’s pretty much going to mimic my review of book #1.

I. Characters

This story follows Taylor and Jamar – or Diesel Dixon, as he is affectionately called – and their romance. Taylor is a fitness coach, often offering group classes and personal training sessions however, she’s fallen on hard times and is struggling to retain consistent clients. Since Taylor isn’t bringing in much money, she’s found herself in a little bit of credit card debt but, after meeting Jamar, she can see some light at the end of the tunnel.

Jamar is a former NFL running back and college superstar, trying to get back on the field after – what doctors called – a career-ending injury to his knee. Jamar saw Taylor in the trending video of her, Samiah, and London and knew from first sight that he wanted to work with her and, work her out *get it*. Jamar is sweet and patient with Taylor but is also carrying a weight from his past that is becoming too heavy for him to bear.

These two as a collective are cute but, individually, Taylor was annoying and Jamar was a pushover.

II. The Story / Plot

A very cute – but predictable – story. I really don’t have much else on that. As I said in my review of Book #1, I honestly do not understand why the love interests have to be so obvious, and why are they falling in love so quickly? It’s just so far-fetched for me, but I guess that’s what makes the story entertaining; it’s beyond the realm of reality.

It took me longer than it should have to finish this book because I wasn’t intrigued; I knew what I was getting into and that took away some of the fun of reading.

III. The Writing

Great writing. While I did find that this author, Rochon, has a penchant for noting that someone has “hooked” their thumb at something – I found that in almost every scene. Other than that, it’s an easy read with good descriptions of the scene and good pacing. The chapters are not too long or too short either, roughing 10-12 pages.

IV. My Final Thoughts

One more book to go in this series and then I’ll give my final thought on the series as a whole. I’m guessing that London’s story (the next book) will be similar to these two. The love interest will be predictable, the conflict/misunderstanding/disagreement will be obvious, and then London will go on to defy the odds as a black woman and cure cancer or something ridiculous. To note: Samiah developed an app and is a top-level data analyst/tech whizkid at her company and, Taylor is fighting against the over-achievers in her family to overcome her learning disability by going to college to get her degree. I get it, but…

I’m Whitney

I’m diving back into reading and taking my time to really enjoy each book—soaking up the writing, analyzing the characters, and seeing what makes a story stick (or miss the mark). Right here is where I write honest, no-fluff reviews.
