Reading Recap: Apr 2025

let the good times rolL

Not to toot my own horn too loudly, but I’ve been doing a pretty solid job of cutting back on the TikTok doom scroll and using that time to read instead—and my screen time stats are backing me up! I’ve also stuck with my goal of not buying any new books, relying instead on my library (shoutout to Libby) and NetGalley. According to Google AI, it takes 66 days to build a habit—and I’m 47 days in. So far, so good. Wish me luck as I keep it going!

This month, I updated my TBR with all the new books I’ve recently added, and I’ve been slowly working my way through the list. Not buying books has definitely slowed down my TBR reading pace since my Libby holds are stacked and it’ll be a few weeks before most are available. Thankfully, I still have some Audible audiobooks I haven’t listened to yet, so I’ll be dipping into those next month. I also want to read Tina Knowles new memoir, Matriarch, next month. I also have Will Smith’s memoir, Will, on Audible, maybe next month will be all about memoirs and biographies! We’ll see.

I’m also trying to push myself out of my reading comfort zone. I explored several new genres in April—including a sci-fi pick!—and tried out some new-to-me authors like Terah Shelton Harris and Mateo Askaripour. That said, I couldn’t resist returning to some of my favorites too: Jeneva Rose, Alex Finlay, and Tiffany D. Jackson all made appearances in my reading lineup.

Here’s what I read in April…

I’m Whitney

I’m diving back into reading and taking my time to really enjoy each book—soaking up the writing, analyzing the characters, and seeing what makes a story stick (or miss the mark). Right here is where I write honest, no-fluff reviews.
